Brooktrout Technology Executives Share SIP Expertise at two Leading
IP Industry Events
NEEDHAM, Mass., January 10, 2005 — Brooktrout
Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media processing, network
interface, call control and signal processing products, today announced
that its Vice President, Chief Technology Officer for Next-Gen Communications,
Eric Burger, and its Senior Product Manager for IP, James Rafferty,
will present at two upcoming VoIP conferences. Mr. Burger will participate
in two panels at the 2005 Winter SIP Forum in Honolulu, Hawaii,
and Mr. Rafferty will address executives at the 2005 IP Communication
Industry Executive Summit in Sophia Antipolis, France.
On January 17 at the Winter SIP Forum, Mr. Burger will bring his
SIP expertise and experience to the “Media Servers & Applications
Servers” panel, where he will examine the standards work needed
for integration of Media Servers and Application Servers to deliver
the next generation of innovative media –rich services. On
January 18, he will participate on the Video and SIP panel where
he will share his views and real world case studies on why video
is crossing the chasm of adoption. Brooktrout Technology recently
announced that its SnowShore Media Server™ has been deployed
as part of a new 3G Videomail service allowing mobile subscribers
to view and purchase video content as well as send, receive, store
and manage voice and video messages.

Mr. Burger is Vice President, Chief Technology Officer for Next-Gen
Communications for Brooktrout Technology and is a pioneer of the
SIP-Controlled Media Server. Mr. Burger represents Brooktrout Technology
by participating on several industry standards forums including
the IETF, IEEE and SIP Forum. He is the author of numerous IETF
RFCs and SIP-related drafts, as well as contributions to the W3C,
PacketCable, and other standards organizations. Mr. Burger currently
has eight patents issued and eight patents pending, and holds degrees
from MIT and the Catholic University of Leuven and was an Adjunct
Professor of Computer Science at George Mason University.
On January 26, Mr. Rafferty will address executives at the 2005
IP Communication Industry Executive Summit on the “Black &
White vs. Purple” panel where he will discuss opportunities
to generate increased revenue for applications that include rich
media support such as video messaging and related requirements for
better transport.
Mr. Rafferty is the Senior Product Manager for IP Telephony at
Brooktrout Technology. Mr. Rafferty is responsible for Brooktrout
Technology’s IP and carrier voice product lines. Mr. Rafferty
is also active in the IP Telephony standards process through his
work with the Internet Engineering Task Force and ITU-T Study Group
16. He is the author of numerous RFCs and was instrumental in extending
the T.38 IP fax standard to enable support for SIP. Mr. Rafferty
holds a B.S. and Master of Engineering degrees in Management Engineering
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
