Motorola IMS in Action at 3GSM; Seamlessly Connects Converged
VoIP and Multimedia Applications Across Variety of End-user Devices
and Environments
Demonstrations Feature Participants in Motorola's IMS Interoperability
Program for Hardware and Software Vendors
CANNES, France, Feb. 14 -- From the Motorola
Ojo(TM) Personal Videophone to ringback tones, the Motorola, Inc.
(NYSE: MOT - News) IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) powers the Seamless
Mobility experience showcased at the Motorola booth at 3GSM 2005
(Booth # A21 in Hall 1). The Motorola IMS, linked with Session Initiated
Protocol (SIP) application servers from IPeria and Ubiquity and
media servers from Brooktrout, will make the ringback tones ring,
the flexible alerting systems work, and conference calls possible
at Motorola's demonstrations in Cannes.
In addition to video calls and ringback tones, the demonstrations
include multiple devices used to showcase packet switch to circuit
switch calling; flexible alerting; voicemail; unified messaging;
and mobile conferencing.
The Motorola IMS is designed to be a robust and highly scalable
carrier- grade system that enables convergent VoIP across multiple
access domains and open interfaces to 3rd party applications servers.
This convergence -- across both packet and circuit domains -- will
enable a vast array of applications that will enhance personal collaboration,
enhanced call management and video services as end-users move among
various environments using fixed and mobile devices.
Brooktrout, IPeria and Ubiquity are key participants in Motorola's
IMS Interoperability Program that was launched in 2004. This program
is designed to provide wireless operators with a broad selection
of multimedia applications that interoperate with the Motorola IMS
through standards-based interfaces.
"Motorola has successfully completed initial interoperability
testing of the Motorola IMS platform," said Michael Krutz,
vice president of the Core Networks Division of Motorola Networks.
"By combining the power of the Motorola IMS with a program
to validate interoperability, Motorola can help its carrier customers
deploy end-to-end IMS advanced multimedia applications with confidence."
The Motorola IMS, based on Motorola's SoftSwitch platform, gives
wireless operators the ability to migrate to fully converged networks
that can handle synchronized voice, data, and multimedia applications.
Motorola's IP technology, as the basis for its Push-To-Talk over
Cellular and Motorola SoftSwitch (MSS) products, has been deployed
in several large-scale commercial operations that together support
more than 2.5 million subscribers.
Business Risks:
Statements about IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) demonstrations and
the functionality of these platforms are forward-looking and involve
risk and uncertainties. Factors that could cause actual results
to differ materially from those in the forward looking statements
include unforeseen events related to the network architecture, performance
of the networks to standards, performance of participant products
and other factors in Motorola's filings with the Securities and
Exchange Commission.
