Turkcell Deploys Mobile Reverse Charge Phone Service on Brooktrout’s TR1000 and NS700 Products

Brooktrout Provides Media Processing and Call Control Functions for Innovative Service

NEEDHAM, Mass., March 16, 2005—Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media processing and call control products, today announced that Turkcell, the leading mobile operator in Turkey and one of the largest mobile operators in the world, has deployed a USSD-based reverse charging service using Brooktrout’s TR1000™ Series voice platform and NS700™ SS7 platform. Turkcell’s service allows prepaid mobile phone users to call other subscribers and request that the called party pays for the call.

The reverse charging application uses Brooktrout’s TR1000 voice processing platform for interactive voice response (IVR) capabilities and the NS700 to provide a range of signaling functions. Subscriber initiated USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) sessions are routed to a USSD gateway, which is also based on Brooktrout’s NS700. The USSD data includes the number the subscriber wishes to dial. The request is processed and then forwarded to a controlling application that identifies the nearest reverse charging server.
The server uses the NS700 to call the desired number and an announcement is played by the TR1000 to the called party, asking if they wish to receive the call. If they accept, a second call is placed to the calling party and the two legs are conferenced together.

The TR1000 is a standards-based, board-level voice and speech processing platform specifically designed to support a broad array of speech, IVR, messaging, and conferencing applications. Ranging from 2 to 60 channels per board, the performance and flexibility of this feature-rich media platform allows systems to scale in both density and functionality to meet the current and evolving needs of advanced enterprise and service provider applications.
