Press Release
Brooktrout Perspective on SIP to be Presented at Voice on the
Net Europe 2005
Where: Voice on the Net Europe, Stockholm International
Fairs, Stockholm, Sweden, Stand 839
When: 23 – 26 May, 2005
What: Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier
of media processing, network interface, call control and signal
processing products, today announced that its Senior Product manager
for IP, James Rafferty, will participate in two panels at the upcoming
Voice on the Net Europe in Stockholm, Sweden.
On May 25th, Mr. Rafferty will bring his SIP knowledge to an expert
panel addressing the topic of “TISPAN: Migrating the PSTN
to SIP“, where he will examine issues concerned with technology
adoption. It is rare that a network starts from scratch with all-new
technology. In fact, more often than not, the shift from one paradigm
to another involves several years of migration. ETSI’s TISPAN
Standards Activities is helping carriers plan their migration for
landline services so that it is aligned with the wireless Internet
future.
Additionally, on May 26th, he will participate on the “Internet
Engineering Task Force (IETF) Update” panel where he will
explain how IETF is the centre of efforts to coordinate VoIP solutions.
Standards bodies are often where the future is created and they
can be instrumental in helping the industry pick the next market
mover. Mr. Rafferty will focus on the following specific themes:
- What standards work is helping to promote Interoperability?
- What impact will the standards have on enabling competitive
markets?
Mr. Rafferty is the Senior Product Manager for IP Telephony at
Brooktrout Technology and is responsible for Brooktrout Technology’s
IP and carrier voice product lines. Mr. Rafferty is also active
in the IP Telephony standards process through his work with the
IETF and ITU-T Study Group 16. He is the author of numerous RFCs
and was instrumental in extending the T.38 IP fax standard to enable
support for SIP. Mr. Rafferty holds a B.S. and Master of Engineering
degrees in Management Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
in Troy, New York.
Brooktrout will display its SnowShore IP Media Server™, which
is a software-based IP media server platform for next generation
networks and service at Stand 839 in the exhibition hall. Also on
show will be the NS700™ SS7 product line that provides a robust
SS7 signaling feature set; the TR1000™, voice and speech processing
platform; the TR1500™, carrier-grade voice processing platform;
and the TR2500Ô platform for voice over packet gateways and
enhanced services.
CTI² will be demonstrating their InTouch messaging application
on the Brooktrout stand. InTouch provides a complete Unified Messaging
system, offering advanced GUIs, including a mobile client, which
uses the capabilities of the Brooktrout SnowShore IP Media Server.
Several scenarios will be available for demonstration. A typical
scenario will involve depositing a voice message, retrieving it
via web and forwarding it with a text note to the user’s mobile
phone or to a sample phone provided at the booth.
