The new B-Tel deployment was recently put into service in Tijuana, Mexico and is an integrated solution based on Global’s GSOS (GLOBAL Switch Operating Software) products. B-Tel’s President Kurt Honold remarked, “GLOBAL provided B-Tel the most powerful business proposition that we encountered after our staff’s extensive and competitive selection review.” Honold added, “In every criteria that we demanded of our vendor, from its price, performance, reliability, scalability, features, flexibility, the diversity of applications supported, and its various technological advantages, GLOBAL’s solution proved superior in every metric. But, it really was GLOBAL’s long-proven ability to support B-Tel to grow revenues with its money-making, value-added applications and superior customer service that made it a clear winner.” Jeff Finley, GLOBAL’s President said, “B-Tel plans to leverage the full power of the GLOBAL Switching Solution and will soon add centrex features with just a modest additional investment, much less expensive than any competitive alternative. B-Tel is prudently leveraging its return on its GLOBAL switching products investment.” GLOBAL announced exclusive support for the V5.2 interface on the Excel platform last year. The B-Tel installation will be the first time central office features and converged centrex are provided over V5.2 interfaces in deployment within Mexico. B-Tel’s diligent review of all vendors found GLOBAL systems the only vendor capable of providing this necessary function. Excel’s President J.C. Murphy remarked, “With the combination of Excel and GLOBAL, B-Tel is now able to attack a new, lucrative market segment and aggressively focus on medium and large business customers using wireless broadband for last-mile infrastructure. All three companies worked closely together to bring this to market. And, as the demanding business customer requires the broadest array of services and features from their service provider, B-Tel’s solution from GLOBAL based on the Excel CSP will provide this from the get-go.” B-Tel’s Chief Technical Officer, Ruben Gonzalez said, “The rapid deployment and tremendous service support provided by GLOBAL allowed us to turn up the services quicker than we anticipated, successfully generating new revenue flows.” As the Mexican telecom market continues to evolve, new telecom laws and regulations are defining new opportunities for companies that are able to adapt quickly. One new aspect is how cable operators and MSOs have been regulated to partner with existing telephony carriers to deliver cable voice services. B-Tel is now offering its GLOBAL enabled switching system for value-added services to the cable industry for testing and proof of concept for cable-voice interoperability, integration, and application tuning before final turn up.
