Brooktrout Technology Established As Founding Member of New IMS
Forum
Brooktrout Provides Technology Thought Leadership and Support
to Evolving Industry Association
NEEDHAM, Mass., Feb. 22, 2006-Brooktrout Technology
Inc., a leading supplier of media processing and call control products,
today announced its support and continued participation in the IMS
Forum, formerly the International Packet Communications Consortium
(IPCC). As a founding member of the IPCC and now the IMS Forum,
Brooktrout shares in the mission of the IMS Forum, to accelerate
the adoption of the IP
Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture.
Brooktrout has a long history with the IPCC through the work of
its Chief Technology Officer, Eric Burger. In 2001, Mr. Burger joined
the International SoftSwitch Consortium and contributed to the Application
Server/Media Server interface document, and was also elected to
the Board of Directors that year. In 2002, he led the effort to
produce the Softswitch Architecture Document (v1) and during this
time, encouraged the organization to broaden its scope that resulted
in the launch of the International Packet Communications Consortium.
In following years, Burger led the effort to produce the IPCC Architecture
Document (v2) and currently serves as a Liaison Member and Advisor
between the Voice-over-IP Forum of Japan and the IMS Forum, as well
as between the SIP Forum and the IMS Forum.
"The IMS framework provides a flexible architecture for realizing
current and next- generation services and includes detailed specifications
to cater to a rich array of multi- media services," said Burger.
"We embrace the mission of the IMS Forum and will continue
our close work with the group to further the adoption of the IMS
architecture."
The mission of the IMS Forum is to accelerate the adoption of IP
Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) by providing an environment for discussion
and resolution of real-world
implementation issues relating to interoperability and standards-based
architectures in the application layer. Also of note, is that the
Forum will provide consultancy and expertise to the industry on
best practices and approaches for IMS rollouts, interconnectivity
and convergence.
"Brooktrout has been a major contributor to the IPCC and was
one of the first vendors to place focus on applications rather than
access and transport. We look forward to their continued leadership
with the IMS Forum," said Michael Khalilian, chairman and president,
IMS Forum. (http://www.IMSForum.org.)
Brooktrout's SnowShore IP Media Server(tm) is an open, carrier
class media processing resource designed to be the Media Resource
Function (MRF) in the IMS reference architecture. It supports a
broad range of applications, from voice and video messaging and
conferencing to prepaid services and IP Centrex services. Because
of its open software architecture that runs on industry-standard
server platforms utilizing standards- based IP protocols, the SnowShore
IP Media Server can leverage the ongoing evolution of network architectures
and processor technology to deliver a flexible media processing
solution for next-generation IP applications. A specific discussion
of Brooktrout's SnowShore IP Media Server's role in the IMS architecture
can be found on Brooktrout's website, available at http://www.brooktrout.com/papers/ims.cfm
