Cantata Technology Extends Leadership Position in Fax over IP with Latest Upgrades to its Brooktrout Intelligent Fax Platforms

Supports Leading VoIP Gateways from Alcatel, Cantata and Cisco to EnsureT.38 Interoperability for Fax over IP Installations

NEEDHAM, Mass. – June 28, 2006 -- Cantata Technology™, the world’s leading independent provider of enabling communications technology, has extended its leadership in the Fax over IP (FoIP) market by working closely with Alcatel and Cisco® to ensure interoperability between the Alcatel Enterprise OmniPCX 6.0 Communications System and the Cisco 2800 and 3800 Series Integrated Service Routers and its Brooktrout® TR1034™ and SR140™ intelligent fax platforms. With an expanded list of interoperable IP media gateways from Cantata, Cisco and Alcatel, ISVs, resellers and end users can confidently deploy fax server solutions based on Cantata’s Brooktrout line of intelligent FoIP platforms into existing VoIP installations without the need to integrate a 3rd party router into their VoIP network.

Cantata Technology was established in 2006 through the combination of Excel Switching Corporation and Brooktrout Technology®.

“As the proven market share leader in intelligent fax technology for more than a decade, Cantata continues to drive the future of Fax over IP by working closely with the leaders in VoIP to ensure a seamless migration path for fax to IP networks,” said Greg Gies, market development manager for intelligent fax platforms, Cantata Technology.

Proven interoperability between T.38 FoIP end points and gateways is a important factor to the success of FoIP implementations. Cantata Technology is committed to T.38 interoperability, and is working closely with market leading VoIP equipment makers worldwide.

Both the Brooktrout SR140 and TR1034 fax platforms support real-time FoIP, providing companies with the ability to integrate fax servers and fax-based document management solutions with their VoIP network, achieving the same high levels of performance, reliability and scalability that enterprises have come to expect over the past 20 years from Cantata while capturing the benefits of IP-based communications. In addition to the newly supported VoIP gateways, both platforms have been previously certified and tested with the Cantata IMG 1010™, and the Cisco 2600, 3600 and AS 5400 Series gateways.

Support from Leading Fax Software Vendors
“Throughout our 15 year relationship with Cantata Technology, Captaris and its customers have looked to Cantata as the leader in intelligent fax technology and now we look forward to developing the fax over IP market with them,” said Eric Bean, senior director of products for Captaris, Inc. (www.captaris.com).

“Fax technology has been making a rapid transition from analog to IP as more and more companies deploy VoIP networks,” said Max Schroeder, senior vice president at Faxcore (www.faxcore.com). “We’re excited to work with Cantata because their extensive VoIP gateway support opens up additional business opportunities for us as enterprises move to a truly converged IP environment.”

In addition to expanded VoIP gateway support, Cantata is also releasing its Brooktrout TR1034 analog DID/Combo intelligent fax platforms, which allow for efficient and reliable electronic routing of faxes to desktop PCs. The Brooktrout TR1034 DID/Combo board now also includes support for the V.34 high speed fax transmission protocol which can significantly lower fax transmission costs by sending faxes at more than twice the speed of the previous generation of fax technology.

RoHS and WEEE Compliance
Cantata’s Brooktrout intelligent fax platforms fully comply with the European Union Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, without requiring any telecom exemptions for the presence of lead. Cantata has also implemented Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) labeling on all European Union products to reduce customer expenses in meeting the WEEE directive.
