Cantata Technology Introduces New Release of Software-Based Media
Server to Drive New VoIP and IMS Services
SnowShore IP Media Server Enables Powerful Voice/Video Messaging,
Conferencing, and Video Sharing Solutions for Carriers and Service
Providers
NEEDHAM, Mass. – December 5, 2006—Cantata Technology™,
one of the world’s leading independent providers of enabling
communications technology, today introduced a new version of its
award-winning SnowShore IP Media Server™, with video and voice
features optimized to power the industry’s most robust set
of VoIP messaging, conferencing, and video sharing applications.
By delivering unprecedented capacity for high performance processing
of video streams for multimedia and messaging applications, along
with advanced collaboration features for voice and video conferencing
applications, Cantata enables service providers to rapidly develop
and deploy new revenue generating services.
Cantata Technology was established in 2006 through the combination
of Brooktrout Technology® and Excel Switching Corporation.
SnowShore IP Media Server Enhancement Overview
Key features incorporated into the new version of the SnowShore
IP Media Server, which is available immediately, include support
for video sharing -- a sophisticated feature allowing the media
server to play a video clip along with its associated audio into
calls ranging from a simple two party call to large multi-party
conferences. This feature enables a wide range of applications such
as in-call video sharing among mobile users, to corporate conferencing
services allowing moderators to play video files during a conference
which are viewable by all participants. Also with this release,
H.264 and H.263v3 video codecs are supported, providing customers
a choice of video encoding and compression standards depending on
their particular video messaging and conferencing application needs.
Simultaneous play/record is a new feature that allows the media
server to record an entire audio conference, while being able to
play conference-wide announcements at the same time. This valuable
feature enables conference participants to be informed that they
are being recorded, notifies them of the remaining time, and allows
them to hear other pre-recorded announcements and notifications.
“The new release of the SnowShore IP Media Server marks a
significant milestone in the evolution of the media server concept,”
said Peter Vescuso, vice president, marketing, Cantata Technology,
Inc. “The SnowShore IP Media Server’s high-performance
multimedia processing capabilities support single or multiple media-rich
processing intensive applications, making it an ideal enabling technology
for carriers to introduce high-demand services and increase revenue.
In addition, the SnowShore IP Media Server offers the broadest set
of integrated, best of breed application partners building high-value
enhanced IP/IMS services for carrier networks.”
“The ability to deliver a robust services portfolio is critical
to today’s network operators,” said Steve Edwards, chief
marketing officer, Sonus Networks, Inc., a leading supplier of service
provider voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, and valued
Cantata partner. "The SnowShore IP Media Server's advanced
VoIP messaging, conferencing, and video sharing solutions enables
network operators to deliver a comprehensive services portfolio
in an IMS-ready environment, while providing a solid foundation
for future innovation and the introduction of exciting new service
offerings.”
"Cantata's SnowShore IP Media Server is a driving force in
the burgeoning market for revenue-generating, multimedia VoIP and
IMS applications," said Stephane Teral, principal analyst,
VoIP, IMS and FMC, Infonetics Research. "The impressive and
pioneering enhancements incorporated into the new version of the
SnowShore IP Media Server will undoubtedly increase the strong traction
and demand Cantata has already achieved in the competitive media
server market."
