Waveleap Communications Deploys Cantata Technology’s IMG
1010 Integrated Media and Signaling VoIP Gateway to Offer New Conversion
Services
IMG 1010’s Robust Transcoding Capabilities Enable Waveleap
to Provide Customers Access to Virtually Any Carrier VoIP Network
Worldwide While Delivering a Five Month ROI
NEEDHAM, MASS., Jan. 24, 2007—Cantata Technology™,
one of the world’s leading independent providers of enabling
communications technology, today announced that Waveleap Communications,
a premier provider of wholesale IP-based call termination and conversion
services, has deployed the IMG 1010™ Integrated Media and
Signaling VoIP Gateway in its global network.
Waveleap selected Cantata’s IMG 1010 as a crucial component
of its new Xvon.net service, which provides real-time, outsourced
conversion services (“transcoding”) among the popular
voice compression protocols (G.711, G.723 and G.729). Xvon.net provides
this service to carriers, aggregators, calling card companies, and
the enterprise.
Cantata worked closely with Sansay, Inc., a leading developer of
VoIP session controllers for service providers, whose technology
was deployed by Waveleap in 2006, to ensure easy configuration and
smooth interoperability between Waveleap’s mission critical
session border controller (SBC), call routing, and transcoding functions.
Waveleap also uses the IMG 1010 to offer its Xvon.net transcoding
service to members of the Voice Peering Fabric (VPF). The VPF, operated
by Stealth Communications, is the world’s largest peering
network for voice communications and telephony services and functions
as an exchange, or “meet-point,” for service providers
and enterprises.
Xvon.net allows carriers and others to accept call traffic from
virtually any source and terminate that traffic on virtually any
carrier worldwide. For example, if a customer uses a network that
supports the G.729 protocol while the selected carrier or peer only
accepts G.711, Xvon.net can provide a seamless interconnection between
the two networks. Waveleap and Cantata eliminate the need for customers
and carriers to deploy additional equipment to communicate between
disparate networks.
“After a thorough evaluation of several leading media gateway
products, we selected the IMG 1010 for its rich transcoding features,
attractive cost of ownership, and ability to easily interconnect
with the VPF,” said Jeff Ellentuck, chief executive officer,
Waveleap Communications. “No other commercially available
media gateway product could match the flexibility or the rapid five
month ROI that we expect to achieve with the IMG 1010. We fully
intend to add more IMG 1010 units to our network in the future.”
The award-winning IMG 1010 is an integrated media and signaling
gateway that provides any-to-any network connectivity, enabling
delivery of SIP services into legacy SS7/PRI networks, as well as
IP-to-IP transcoding to connect IP networks using different protocols.
The IMG 1010 offers the widest range of network interfaces in a
compact, high density 1U package, allowing service providers to
deploy applications across fixed and mobile networks worldwide.
“Waveleap’s selection of Cantata’s IMG 1010
continues to reflect the product’s growing influence and strong
market traction among global communications service providers,”
said Marc Zionts, chief executive officer, Cantata Technology, Inc.
“In little more than a year of commercial availability, the
IMG 1010 has already been deployed by more than 55 carriers in 20
countries, spanning five continents. We expect that deployment of
the IMG 1010 as a transcoding resource and Waveleap’s offering
of the service to members of the Voice Peering Fabric will further
increase demand for the product in 2007 and beyond.”
