Cantata Technology’s Excel MSP 1010 Enhanced to Offer Advanced
Signaling for Next Generation Networks
Enables Rapid and Cost-Effective Introduction of Innovative,
Revenue-Generating Applications
NEEDHAM, Mass. March 12, 2007—Cantata Technology™,
one of the world’s leading independent providers of enabling
communications technology, today introduced an enhanced version
of its Excel Multi-Services Platform (MSP) 1010™, establishing
a new industry standard for global service providers to rapidly
and cost-effectively deploy innovative, revenue-generating applications
as they transition to next generation networks.
Key features and functionality incorporated into the new enhanced
version of the MSP 1010 include:
- Enhanced Sigtran and SIP Signaling Support: Inclusion of the
Sigtran M3UA protocol in the MSP 1010 enables carriers to seamlessly
deploy services and solutions in converged networks, where the
connectivity is IP, yet internetworking is established through
legacy SS7 protocols. In addition, M3UA provides for increased
bandwidth and reduced cost. The enhanced MSP 1010 also incorporates
extensive SIP capabilities which support the industry movement
toward SIP as a standard, enabling the development of SIP-based
applications that allow operator deployment of new, revenue-generating
IP and IMS services. With integrated support for call control
protocols (ISUP, ISDN, IN), mobile protocols, robust media processing,
and SIP capabilities, the MSP 1010 supports a wide range of applications
deployable in any generation network.
- Network Monitoring and Recording for Lawful Intercept: The
MSP 1010’s new passive recording functionality, combined
with the ability to monitor SS7 signaling, allows for the development
of lawful intercept solutions, whereby law enforcement authorities
can non-intrusively record phone conversations. This functionality
enables carriers to comply with the Communications Assistance
for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA).
- Bearer Independent ISUP: Enables the development of infrastructure
elements and nodes in the next-generation architecture (NGN),
and the conversion of ISUP signaling to SIP signaling in the transition
to NGN networks, regardless of the bearer traffic route.
An extension of Cantata’s popular, award-winning Excel CSP™
family of products, the MSP 1010 is a highly flexible media resource
platform, supporting TDM and IP interfaces as well as fixed and
mobile, signaling and bearer traffic. A high-density solution with
an unmatched price-performance ratio, the MSP 1010 has a single-shelf
(1u) form factor and comprehensive GUI for easy installation and
maintenance. The MSP 1010 serves as a single development environment
for media processing and signaling traffic. This versatility enables
users to quickly and cost-effectively develop revenue-generating
services for both legacy and next-generation networks. Users can
develop many types of applications including prepaid voice and data
services; voice applications such as IVR, voicemail, conferencing;
PBX; a wide range of services based on SS7 monitoring, including
welcome roamer and missed call alert; as well as signaling services
such as SMS-C, SMS Router, IN applications and signaling converters.
“The MSP 1010 is reflective of Cantata’s corporate
philosophy of developing technology that enables the creation of
next generation services from now generation networks,” said
Marc Zionts, chief executive officer, Cantata Technology. “The
MSP 1010, like other Cantata products, enables service providers
to rapidly bring new revenue-generating VoIP applications to market,
while eliminating the need to invest in multiple layers of complicated,
costly infrastructure. The highly scalable design of the MSP 1010
also enables service providers to easily increase capacity.”
"Volt Delta has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with
Cantata, maximizing the full power and potential of its Excel CSP
2090 to rapidly introduce new services to its customers," said
Rich Oldach, executive vice president, strategic marketing at Volt
Delta, a leading provider of platform and database services to the
worldwide telecommunications market. "Given Cantata's impressive

release of the Excel MSP 1010 for deployment in its global network.
The MSP 1010's advanced signaling features will provide Volt Delta
with a significant competitive advantage as it develops and deploys
new revenue-generating VoIP applications and services."
“Palm Associates selected the MSP 1010 due to its advanced
signaling and SIP functionality, all incorporated within one programmable
and scalable platform,” said Paul Petronelli, chief executive
officer, Palm Associates, a valued Cantata partner. “We are
particularly impressed with the Sigtran M3UA and signaling conversion
functionality. These features enable Palm Associates to provide
significant productivity and financial benefits to customers as
we provide next generation services through seamless internetworking
with existing and evolving network infrastructures."
